ROLE
Digital Product Designer
TOOLS
Adobe CS, HTML, CSS
Scholastic Book Clubs wanted to find a way of helping teachers send information to parents without having to go through the registration process of the Scholastic Book Clubs site. Teachers would be able to share digital flyers, letters to families in several languages, how-to videos and fun animated GIFs.

MY ROLE
I led the design process from user mapping through final QA, aligning educator needs with business objectives and collaborating closely with engineering for seamless delivery.
-
Mapped key user journeys to identify teacher pain points
-
Collaborated with the account manager to align user needs with business goals
-
Designed and presented low- and high-fidelity wireframes
-
Partnered with developers on handoff and design QA to ensure quality execution
THE CHALLENGE
Create an experience that would live outside the “wall” of Scholastic Book Clubs for quick and easy to access to messaging assets
such as digital flyers, animated gifs and family letters in other languages.
USER GOALS & FEATURES
Create Ease of Use
The landing page would make it quick and easy to use on mobile since that has been a pain point with teachers during user interviews.
Easy to Share Information
User need to be able to share and download all communication assets to a portal of their choosing.
Monthly Updates
The microsite needed to be updated once a month as new flyers came in. Showcasing new publications for every age group.

RESEARCH AND USER JOURNEY
Insights from Scholastic’s teacher advisor panel showed that the Book Clubs login wall created friction for both teachers and parents, while teachers expressed a strong need for a mobile-friendly ordering experience and the ability to communicate order updates through tools they already use, such as email, ClassDojo, and Facebook.

WIREFRAMES
Using teacher insights and Scholastic’s metrics, I designed user-flow wireframes focused on key needs, taking a mobile-first approach to support ease of use on smaller screens.

USER TESTING
I LOVE this. Very easy to use.
I would like to download GIFs
as still images. I don't understand
what "Shareables" means.
"
"
During testing with our users, mostly all positive feedback. One friction point was the original title of the microsite. Also users wanted to not just share GIFs and letters but download still images as well. They brought up that they also have classroom Instagram profiles.
IMPACT

18% more letters reached ESL families
The success was measure by the amount of family letters that were downloaded as that was tracked in our system. Notably,
we had letters in languages other than English being downloaded at 18%, including languages such as Spanish, French and Mandarin.

Animated GIFs using illustrations from Scholastic's Library were a major highlight.
Teachers could also post still images on their emails/social media.
RESULT
The Scholastic Book Clubs portal was well-received by stakeholders and teachers, offering family letters in multiple languages (English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Chinese) and supporting teachers of all backgrounds and tech skill levels, with many using animated GIFs and images in emails, ClassDojo, and Instagram.
